From the Eyes of a Senior Traveler

What a trip!!
Our kids asked us to go visit them in Thailand. After my mind processed the idea of making this voyage half way around the world, we were off.
It took us about 21 hours to get to Chiang Mai where we spent the next 10 days.
We had a blast. We did the tourist stuff and we did the laid back stuff, just as if we were traveling anywhere else. It was easy to get around, very inexpensive, and safe.
We visited the Chiang Mai Zoo which is set on the mountain side. The thing about the zoo is that little had to be added. The animal enclosures were structured in the forest/jungle of the mountain. It felt natural. As a matter of fact, every morning close by our apartment, we could hear monkeys howling.
We visited an elephant sanctuary and learned how these beautiful creatures have been saved from a previous life of mistreatment to live out a life where they can be themselves. What a heartfelt experience.
During our visit, we also participated in a cooking class. I actually learned how to cook Thai food. It was so easy and a great experience. I learned about growing ginger and the fresh herbs used in the making of the food. I learned what mango sticky rice is and thoroughly enjoyed it. And, I happily learned that I really like curry —well fresh curry. It was so easy to make and easy to eat.
Thailand is a Buddhist country and there was no shortage of temples. We took a day trip north to Chiang Rai to visit the Blue temple, White Temple, and the huge serenity Buddha sitting on the mountain.
All in all, it was wonderful to experience life across the globe. People are people and they are just living their best life and I was happy to join in.
