Our ‘Why’
“The mystery of life isn’t a problem to solve, but a reality to experience.”
- Dune, Frank Herbert
All things considered, we are very thankful for our current existence. Challenges, of course. Opportunities, absolutely. But all and all, a pretty great life.
So why the heck are we putting this great life on hold to wander around the world and live out of a suitcase for a year?
In short, to experience reality.
There is no bucket list of destinations or things to check off. We don’t consider this a vacation, and we don’t want to be tourists. Will we lay on a beach and take a tour from time to time, definitely. But, we want to travel and experience more than we want to ‘see’ and ‘do’.
Our goal is to live and experience life in a new way. We aim to challenge the conventional and comfortable, in search of something more. There has to be more to life than being controlled by a calendar, a checklist, or corporations.
Allow us to be cliche for a minute. Rick Steves has a great talk about the difference between a tourist and a traveler (linked below). We have been fortunate enough to have been both tourists and travelers in our lives, and wholeheartedly agree that travel opens your mind, broadens your perspective, and allows you to start questioning how you live your own life. We know the current reality we live in does not wholly match the way we want to live our lives…and we want to see what else is out there.
With all this in mind, we have selected places we feel can help us expand our horizons, learn and grow, and ultimately possibly be our next home (but more on that later).
