Speeding Through Sevilla

If Lisbon provided 24 total hours of great weather, Sevilla offered 12. Good thing we were there for a total of 48 hours so it all worked out.

Getting into the city via bus we were immediately taken by all the greenspace. As we taxi’d to the hotel we continued to see the abundance of parks and greenspace around us and we were itching to get out and explore!

Knowing we only had 2 nights we sprung for a slightly more fancy hotel that was right in the center of it all. It was across from one of the main sights, Plaza de España, and was a quick walk to mostly everything we needed. We quickly unpacked and got to walking.

The Plaza de España was a beautiful open area that offered great art, architecture, and people watching. For the movie buffs it is also where some scenes of Naboo were filmed in Star Wars Episode 2. This sight is not to be missed and was one of the most beautiful buildings we have seen so far. We spent our afternoon exploring the palace and surrounding park before hitting up the hotel pool for a quick and cold swim.

The next day, our only full day in Sevilla, we got up early to get to exploring some other sights and areas because we were warned the weather was supposed to be bad in the afternoon.

We wandered through the streets looking at some pretty cathedrals and palaces and we tried to visit the Real Alcázar gardens (the garden used as Dorne in Game of Thrones) but they were closed due to the questionable weather. We had a delightful walk but could feel the weather was turning so eventually turned in for an early evening.

Soon after we got back to the hotel, the weather got bad. From our room we could see the entire pool deck and over the course of a few hours we watched, and listened to the weather go from bad to worse. There were a dozen umbrellas and a whole assortment of pool furniture that we watched get blown to hell in the strong winds, even damaging the floor tiles in the process. We saw and heard all manner of debris get blown about in the streets and watched the hotel employees try to salvage the pool deck damage. It was thoroughly entertaining to watch from the safety and comfort of our room. The storm blew through in a few hours and we were treated with a unique sunset to cap off the day.

All and all, Seville is definitely a place worth visiting for the parks and palaces. We are sure there is a lot more to explore, but we got a good taste.
