Sunsets in Ericeira
After the Porto Debacle, we were off to the small surf town of Ericeira which is located roughly 45 minutes by car outside of Lisbon. We were feeling better, had Ry’s bag in hand, and we were ready for some fun in the sun.
Ericeira was what we wanted it to be. An opportunity to slow down and relax.
We were forced to slow down in Porto due to circumstances but the goal going into Ericeira was rest and relaxation. Our days were spent wandering around the quaint streets, laying by the beach watching the waves (we took a quick and cold dip too), and watching the sun set every evening.
There isn’t too much more to say that isn’t captured in the pictures so we will let them do the talking.
A couple of quick highlights included:
Taking time to watch the sunset every day. At home we would catch the sunset when we could, probably an above average number of times. But to actually plan and prioritize this was amazing. Even the mediocre sunsets were fabulous.
Exploring the rocky coastline. Most of the Ericeira coast was a rocky shoreline with beach coves (very similar to NoCal). Near where we were staying, there were these old ruined structures that provided some great wave watching. Ry finally got the drone airborne to check it out and the views didn’t disappoint. You can catch some of his videos on his and my instagram.
Mashed potatoes on a hot dog. We stopped in a bar one night for a snack and tried a loaded hotdog that used mashed potatoes as a condiment. Skeptical at first, Viv described it as “a textural marvel” and Ry used the word “otherworldly”. While we are not advocating for all hot dogs to come with mashed potatoes, in this context it worked great. Who would have thought.
Fun Fact: From our balcony we could see a lighthouse that was the closest point to North America from Europe. It will likely be the closest we will be to the U.S. for a long time.
